    NFL News and Rumors: Vikings hiring Jerrod Johnson

    The Minnesota Vikings are hiring Indianapolis Colts offensive quality control coach and former Texas A&M star quarterback Jerrod Johnson for an offensive coaching staff assistant role involving their quarterbacks and passing game, according to league sources not authorized to speak publicly.

    A former Elite 11 quarterback, Johnson has coached for the San Francisco 49ers under a Bill Walsh Minority Coaching Fellowship. He was promoted two years ago to his current role with the Colts. He interviewed last year for the Philadelphia Eagles’ quarterbacks coaching position.

    Johnson, 33, finished his college career with a school-record 8,011 passing yards and 8,888 yards of total offense and also played on the Aggies basketball team.

    He went undrafted, but he played for the Philadelphia Eagles, Pittsburgh Steelers, Seattle Seahawks, Chicago Bears, Baltimore Ravens, Dallas Cowboys, Hartford Colonials, and Sacramento Mountain Lions.

    NFL News and Rumors: Texans hiring Jacques Cesaire

    The Houston Texans are hiring Buffalo Bills assistant defensive line coach Jacques Cesaire as their new defensive line coach, according to league sources not authorized to speak publicly. He will replace Bobby King.

    Cesaire, 41, is a former Chargers defensive lineman who played for San Diego for nine seasons before retiring. He recorded 217 career tackles, 12.5 sacks, and 3 forced fumbles.

    A former undrafted free agent from Southern Connecticut State, Cesaire has coached for the Bills for the past two seasons under defensive line coach Eric Washington and defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier. He coached the defensive line at the University of San Diego for five seasons before joining the Bills.

    He takes over a defensive line that returns defensive end Jonathan Greenard, who led the Texans with a career-high 8 sacks. The Texans’ top free-agent defensive lineman is tackle Maliek Collins, whom they hope to re-sign. Jacob Martin is a pending free agent who is not expected to return after some initial contract discussions during the season.’

    Giants’ Drew Wilkins drew defensive coordinator interest

    New York Giants outside linebackers coach Drew Wilkins drew interest from colleges as a defensive coordinator candidate before joining his mentor, Giants defensive coordinator Don “Wink” Martindale, with the NFC East franchise, according to league sources.

    Wilkins, 34, is a highly regarded coach and teacher. He was an intern in the Ravens’ video department before rising in the ranks with Baltimore. Wilkins was also a student assistant at Maryland, where he worked for Ralph Friedgen and James Franklin.

    Vikings hire Brian Angelichio

    Former Carolina Panthers tight ends coach Brian Angelichio is being hired by the Minnesota Vikings to coach the same position, according to a league source.

    Angelichio has also coached for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Cleveland Browns, Green Bay Packers, and Washington Commanders.
