When is the Virginia Tech Pro Day in 2022?

    • Date: Tuesday, March 22
    • Time: 2 PM ET

Virginia Tech prospects will work out for NFL teams during this pro day process on Tuesday, March 22. The 2022 Virginia Tech Pro Day will start at 2 PM ET. All draft-eligible players will take part in one session, unlike some programs that have individual workouts for rising senior prospects. Last season, the workouts took place at the Beamer-Lawson Indoor Practice Facility in Blacksburg.

Top Virginia Tech NFL Draft prospects working out at pro day

Virginia Tech has seen a lot of recent success in the NFL Draft. Although the 2019 and 2020 drafts yielded just one selection, those years were sandwiched between incredible annual selection events. Tremaine and Terrell Edmunds became the first brothers to be selected in the first round when they left the program in the 2018 NFL Draft. Last year, Christian Darrisaw and Caleb Farley heard their name called within the first 32 selections.

While a repeat of that success seems unlikely, the Hokies have a solid contingent of NFL Draft prospects this season. Currently, they have seven prospects featured on the Pro Football Network Top 300 Big Board. The 2022 Virginia Tech Pro Day will give those players one last opportunity to showcase their athletic talents and propel them up NFL Draft boards.

    Amaré Barno, EDGE

Following an excellent performance at the NFL Combine, Amaré Barno will be hoping to keep that ball rolling at the 2022 Virginia Tech Pro Day. Barno led all defensive end prospects with a sensational 4.36-second official 40-yard dash. The Hokies’ pass-rush prospect also figured prominently with a 37″ vertical jump and led all defensive end prospects with a 10’11” broad jump.

Athleticism and productivity are the hallmarks of his college tape, so putting up excellent testing numbers shouldn’t come as a surprise. Barno is a tall and long pass rusher who possesses 34″ arms attached to his 6’5″ frame. As NFL teams fall in love with athletic prospects, Barno could be in high demand. However, he’ll need to supplement that upside with some technical development to be a success in the NFL.

    Lecitus Smith, G

While teammate Barno was impressing with his production in the opening game of the 2021 college football season, Lecitus Smith stuck in our minds with his performance in that North Carolina game. He impresses with strength, play power, and the ability to use those to carve open rushing lanes in Virginia Tech’s multiple-run scheme system.

Smith had a relatively disappointing performance at the NFL Combine. However, the Virginia Tech Pro Day will give him an opportunity to rectify that. Furthermore, he didn’t complete a vertical jump in Indianapolis so it will be interesting to see if the Hokies guard adds that test into his pro day workout.

    Jermaine Waller, CB

While Jermaine Waller — a former wide receiver who transitioned to cornerback — has some impressive elements to his scouting report, there were question marks about his long speed ahead of the NFL Combine. Those questions were answered in Indianapolis, but not in a positive way for the Hokies CB. His 4.68 40-yard dash was the slowest of all defensive backs. Can he improve on that showing at the Virginia Tech Pro Day?
