    NFL News and Rumors Today: Vikings hire Chris Rumph

    Former Chicago Bears and Houston Texans outside linebackers coach Chris Rumph is being hired as the Minnesota Vikings’ defensive line coach, according to league sources not authorized to speak publicly.

    A former Florida and Tennessee co-defensive coordinator, Rumph is known for his knowledge and development of players.

    Rumph joined the Texans’ staff after they fired outside linebackers coach and senior defensive assistant John Pagano, who is now coaching the Denver Broncos’ outside linebackers.

    Rumph previously coached at Florida where he coached the defensive line and held the co-defensive coordinator title. He also had coaching stints at Texas, Alabama, Clemson, Memphis, and South Carolina State.

    Rumph played linebacker at South Carolina and was a two-year starter.

    Jaguars hiring Bill Shuey to coach linebackers

    The Jacksonville Jaguars are hiring former Chicago Bears outside linebackers coach Bill Shuey for the same position for new coach Doug Pederson’s coaching staff, according to a league source not authorized to speak publicly. Shuey also interviewed with the Baltimore Ravens, per an NFL source.

    Shuey, 47, has also coached for the Philadelphia Eagles, the Widener Pride and the West Chester Golden Rams. Shuey played collegiately at Slippery Rock. He also played minor league football with the Pittsburgh Colts and Lehigh Valley Panthers. The Bethlehem, Pa., native was a 130-pound high school wrestler who overcame a lack of size to play football.

    Shuey worked for the Eagles initially as a marketing intern before becoming a training camp coordinator assistant who was hired by Andy Reid to join the coaching staff. He was promoted to quality control and offensive assistant working under Brad Childress.

    Shuey later became a linebackers coach for the Eagles, including one Super Bowl trip.
    With the Bears under former coach Matt Nagy, who was fired and replaced by Matt Eberflus, Shuey was promoted from quality control coach to assistant linebackers to outside linebackers coach, working with six-time Pro Bowl selection Khalil Mack.

    Dolphins interview Curtis Johnson

    The Miami Dolphins are interviewing former New Orleans Saints receivers coach Curtis Johnson for their offensive coordinator vacancy, according to a league source not authorized to speak publicly.

    Johnson is a former Tulane head coach and a former Miami Hurricanes receivers coach.
    Johnson has also coached for the Chicago Bears.

    He had the additional title of senior offensive assistant for the Saints last year.

    Jaguars move on from Tom Gamble

    The Jacksonville Jaguars have moved on from senior personnel department executive Tom Gamble, according to a league source not authorized to speak publicly.

    Gamble has worked in the NFL for three decades and was previously a vice president of player personnel for the Philadelphia Eagles.

    He was an assistant general manager of the CFL’s Montreal Alouettes and was a senior advisor for the head coach and player personnel executive at Michigan.

    Gamble was director of pro personnel for the San Francisco 49ers.

    Raiders make several changes in front office

    Meanwhile, the Las Vegas Raiders have moved on from senior advisor to the general manager Walter Juliff, scouting department employee Nolan Nawrocki and director of football research Dave Razzano, according to league sources

    Texans promote Ben McDaniels to passing game coordinator

    The Texans have promoted Ben McDaniels to passing game coordinator and receivers coach from assistant receivers coach, according to league sources not authorized to speak publicly.

    The brother of Las Vegas Raiders head coach Josh McDaniels, McDaniels is a former Michigan quarterbacks coach who was hired last season. At Michigan, he was originally an analyst under coach Jim Harbaugh before being named receivers coach when Jim McElwain left the staff prior to the Peach Bowl. McDaniels was then named quarterbacks coach.

    Ben McDaniels was a quarterbacks coach with the Broncos coaching Tim Tebow when his brother was the head coach in Denver.

    McDaniels, who played quarterback at Kent State, has also coached for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Chicago Bears, where he was an offensive quality control coach and at Columbia University as offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach.

    McDaniels’ father, Thom McDaniels, is a legendary former high school football coach at Canton McKinley High School.

    Vikings hire Chris Kuper

    The Vikings are expected to hire former Pro Bowl offensive lineman Chris Kuper as their offensive line coach, according to a league source not authorized to speak publicly.

    Kuper was the Broncos’ assistant offensive line coach for the past three seasons under former head coach Vic Fangio.

    In addition, Kuper is a former Denver offensive lineman selected in the fifth round from North Dakota in 2006. He started 79 of 90 career games in eight seasons with the Broncos. Kuper signed a five-year, $25.5 million contract in 2010 before retiring in 2014. He’s also coached for the Miami Dolphins.

    Kuper played high school football in Anchorage, Alaska, and was a three-year starter and All-Conference and All-American selection.

    Denver Broncos hire Ola Adams

    The Broncos have hired former Temple co-defensive coordinator Ola Adams as assistant secondary coach, according to a league source not authorized to speak publicly. Adams was previously with Villanova as their defensive coordinator this past season before being hired by Temple coach Stan Drayton this year. Adams was with Villanova for seven seasons.

    He spent the past three years as a defensive coordinator. Now, Adams joins the Broncos to work under Nathaniel Hackett, their new head coach and former Green Bay Packers offensive coordinator.
