What to expect from the Bengals vs. Chiefs game?
As time expired, a 20-yard Evan McPherson field goal separated these two teams in Week 17. Since then, the Bengals’ offense has scored 3 touchdowns. McPherson has taken on the scoring load, kicking 8 field goals in two postseason games. Meanwhile, QB Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs’ offense have everything finely tuned at this point after scoring 42 points in each of their postseason games.
One of the weak points that allowed teams to stay within striking distance of Cincinnati this postseason has been offensive line play. While the left side has held up, the right side has been a sieve, as evidenced by the Titans’ 9-sack rout of QB Joe Burrow. While the Chiefs’ defensive line is not quite as solid as Tennessee’s, the midseason trade for edge rusher Melvin Ingram has proven to be the catalyst for the defense this season. The amount of pressure Kansas City brings home will be a massive factor in this Bengals vs. Chiefs matchup.
While Burrow has been continually harassed all season, his poise in the pocket is phenomenal, and the connection with rookie WR Ja’Marr Chase has been jaw-dropping. The Burrow-to-Chase link gashed Kansas City’s secondary for 266 yards and 3 touchdowns in their last meeting. While I doubt that happens again, the Bengals will need something to fire up this offense if it wants to keep up with Mahomes.
Bengals vs. Chiefs Prediction: Chiefs 38, Bengals 28
