Houston Texans trade Jadeveon Clowney to the Seattle Seahawks

After a long holdout, Houston Texans have agreed to trade star defensive end Jadeveon Clowney to the Seattle Seahawks.

The pieces finally fell and the Houston Texans have agreed to trade Jadeveon Clowney. The star defensive end will be heading to the Seattle Seahawks. In return, according to Ian Rapaport, Houston will receive a third-round pick, linebacker Jacob Martin, and pass-rusher Berkevious Mingo.

PFN had reported earlier that Seattle was one of the teams interested in making a move for Clooney.

This morning Jay Glazer broke the news on twitter.

The news of the Texans finding a trading partner for Clowney was a little less of a surprise. There have been rumblings for weeks that the Texans wanted to move on from Clowney. Why? According to Pauline, the problem with Clowney is twofold. People believe that Clowney is his own worst enemy because he doesn’t practice well and people have complained he practices at 50% which has bothered head coach O’Brien. Furthermore, sources have told Pauline that Clowney doesn’t come across as someone who does the little things well to become a better player.

Clowney, the number one overall pick in the 2014 NFL Draft, has made three consecutive Pro Bowl appearances. Set to earn $12,306,00 according to www.sportrac.com, and an unrestricted free agent in 2020, the Texans did not have faith in any type of long-term deal, nor did Clowney’s camp. One primary reason for this is because Clowney wants to be paid like a pass-rushing defensive end, rather than a linebacker.

Making this move was out of necessity for Houston to recoup any type of return at all for their former top pick. As reported by Pauline, Seattle was one of many teams in the market for Clowney.

Earlier this week, rumours had begun to surface that Clowney was probably going to land in Miami. Clowney adamantly refused to play for a rebuilding team like Miami, his preference was to go to a team that was a contender.
