Teddy Bridgewater Landing Spots: Could the Texans, Seahawks, or Saints target the veteran QB?

What are some potential landing spots for Denver Broncos QB Teddy Bridgewater when he hits free agency in the 2022 NFL offseason?

Heading into the final weeks of the 2021 NFL season, Denver Broncos QB Teddy Bridgewater is set to be a free agent, but what are his potential landing spots? Let’s take a look at what the future holds for Bridgewater and which teams might target him this offseason.

    Teddy Bridgewater’s potential landing spots

The 2021 NFL season has been a strange one for Bridgewater. By many, it has been viewed as a failure of a season. But when you look at Bridgewater’s career, this year has been very much in line with what he is as a quarterback.

The question is whether any teams will be willing to look at Bridgewater as a potential starter in 2022. He will almost certainly find a role as a backup somewhere, but his initial goal as a free agent will surely be to try and start. Let’s take a look at which teams might be in play for Bridgewater this offseason.

The Houston Texans might be looking for a new QB this offseason

There are a number of potential outcomes for Deshaun Watson’s career. However, not many of them seem to involve him playing in Houston. Therefore, the Texans need to find their QB of the future. Tyrod Taylor does not appear to be the answer. Meanwhile, Davis Mills needs more time, and the 2022 NFL Draft class looks bereft of top-tier QB talent.

Therefore, the Texans become an intriguing potential landing spot for Bridgewater. The veteran QB could go to Houston and make a claim as the long-term solution. At the very least, he could use it as another prove-it year — but he is running out of those opportunities.

Could the Seattle Seahawks be a destination for Bridgewater?

The rumors from last offseason were that Russell Wilson could be on the move via trade. While this is not set in stone, the way the season has gone for the Seahawks, they might look to blow it up. If they do trade Wilson, they may target a veteran QB to bridge them into the future.

That would make Seattle an intriguing landing spot for Bridgewater when he leaves the Broncos. The Seahawks have Jacob Eason on the roster, but he would not be ready to start in 2022. Therefore, Bridgewater could go to Seattle and have some amazing weapons in Tyler Lockett and DK Metcalf.

Would Bridgewater and the Saints consider a reunion?

The injury to Jameis Winston has left the New Orleans Saints spinning at the QB position. Taysom Hill was unconvincing — to say the least — as a starter in Week 13, and Trevor Siemian does not appear to be the answer. If the Saints feel like they can compete in 2022, then a call to Bridgewater would make sense.

Bridgewater knows the system and would be able to slot right in and start in 2022. He is not as exciting or as electric as Winston or Hill, but Bridgewater’s style is similar to that of Drew Brees, which clearly worked reasonably well. There are a lot of dominoes to fall in the Saints’ QB picture in the coming months, but Bridgewater could be an intriguing option.

The Steelers will likely be in the market to replace Ben Roethlisberger

It is looking more and more likely that we will not see Ben Roethlisberger back in Pittsburgh in 2022. They have tried to look for a successor in the draft and have not been successful. Therefore, would the Steelers consider using a veteran QB to try and expand their window?

Bridgewater would not add a new dimension to Pittsburgh’s offense, but he could guide a team loaded with talented playmakers. Adding Bridgewater would allow the Steelers to focus resources on their offensive line and build out defensive depth in the draft.
