Looking to get filthy rich on the Falcons this weekend? Perhaps you think you can become nouvelle rich sticking your notes on New York? If you’re looking to make a little money predicting the future, it’s worth considering the past before you lay down your hard-earned cash.

With the Falcons giving up the most points in the NFL so far this season, it’s tempting to assume that this could be a high-scoring game. After all, they’ve been involved in two games that tallied over 60 points. Furthermore, the Jets are coming off an overtime victory against the Tennessee Titans that saw them smash the over for the first time this season.

However, their combined record against the over is 3-5. Additionally, 57.1% of NFL games this season have hit the under. In four of the previous 12 encounters, the total score has tallied less than the 43.5 over/under line for Sunday’s matchup.

Jets vs. Falcons against the spread

Betting the spread for the Jets vs. Falcons is risky business. Both teams are 1-3 against the spread this season. The Jets have had point differentials of 5, 19, 26 in their three losses, which appears to play into the Falcons’ favor. However, Atlanta’s only win was a three-point win over the New York Giants, less than the spread line. Also, five of their seven wins over the Jets were decided by less than the 3.5-point spread.

With all that considered and the fact that “underdogs” are 60.3% against the spread through Week 4, taking the Jets might be the smartest course of action.

    Jets vs. Falcons prediction

The Jets vs. Falcons matchup is the first NFL International Series game for two years. Since 2005, the Falcons are 3-1 in their head-to-head clashes with the Jets, having won the last game 25-20. As a result, the Jets head into Tottenham trailing 7-5 in the overall head-to-head record with Atlanta.

They’ve been no stranger to trailing this season. Before Matt Ammendola’s 27-yard field goal late in their third-quarter win against the Titans, Robert Saleh’s team was the only franchise in the NFL to not hold a lead so far in the 2021 NFL season. At 0-3 and with the naysayers and vultures already circling Wilson, things were looking bleak in New York.

Yet, Wilson’s second-half performance was more akin to his final season at BYU than the torrid start to his NFL career. The “Mormon Manziel” made a living out of picking apart awful defenses last season. He faces one again this coming Sunday.

The Falcons have gotten quarterback pressure on just 16.4% of their defensive plays, fifth-worst in the NFL. In addition to allowing the most points in the NFL, they’re also just one of two teams that haven’t secured an interception through Week 4 of the NFL season.

The other team? You guessed it — the Jets. However, New York has allowed just 2 touchdowns to the passing game, with less than 1,000 passing yards in their four games. The Jets should be able to stymie Matt Ryan and Atlanta’s offense, allowing Wilson and New York’s offense to put up enough points to emerge with a narrow win.

Prediction: New York Jets 21, Atlanta Falcons 19
