Both the Cardinals and the Rams enter Week 4 with a share of the NFC West lead. Predicted to be the top division in the NFL coming into 2021, the Cardinals and Rams have both shown why the division is strong. Top to bottom, both teams — plus the NFC West rival Seattle Seahawks and San Francisco 49ers — have shown they can score from anywhere on the field. Additionally, both teams can play strong defense.

Kyler Murray, Matthew Stafford have more than just MVP in their sights

NFL fans across the country had high hopes for both Kyler Murray and Matthew Stafford entering the season. Now three years in the league, Murray was expected to jump into the elite category amongst NFL quarterbacks. Through the first two games of the season, he’s scored 10 total touchdowns while completing over 76% of his passes. Additionally, he’s led Arizona to 31 or more points each week, tied for the most in the NFL.

Stafford and the Rams aren’t far behind. Los Angeles has scored the third-most points per game (31.7) largely thanks to Stafford’s arm. With a rushing attack averaging just 83.7 yards per game, Stafford has to be feeling some déjà vu back to his days as a Detroit Lion. But he’s doing what we expected him to do in Sean McVay’s offense — move the ball vertically down the field.

Can either defense stop the other team’s offense?

Both defenses have had their highs and lows so far in 2021. While the Rams boast an excellent rushing defense (11th in the NFL), the Cardinals find themselves at the bottom of the list (29th). Things are flipped in the secondary, as Arizona is in eighth in passing yards allowed while Los Angeles has limped to 25th.

Scoring points will determine Sunday’s game between the Cardinals and Rams, and both teams will aim to take advantage of the other’s weaknesses. Can the Cardinals shut down Stafford, Cooper Kupp, and the Rams’ passing attack? Or can Los Angeles adjust and find some consistency on the ground to take advantage of Arizona’s troubles up front?

    Cardinals vs. Rams prediction

Overall, it’s two of the best offenses going up against two of the top defenses in the NFC. Arizona’s 3-0 start isn’t surprising, but many may be waiting to see its offense hiccup. For McVay, Stafford, and the Rams, experience may be the game-winning factor in a game with possible playoff implications.

    Prediction: Rams 27, Cardinals 23
