Week 3 of the preseason will look different from years past. Before, this would be the week we’d see a majority of the starters playing a half or more. Now, we’re not sure how teams will handle stars like Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce, and Justin Jefferson.
Being that this is the final week of the preseason, it’s anticipated that both the Vikings and Chiefs will want to see more of what their fringe players can do with extended playing time, much like teams used Week 4 of the preseason in the past. After all, the final NFL cut day is next Tuesday [August 31], meaning all 32 teams will need to be at their 53-man limit.
The Chiefs have a good idea where they’re sitting for the 2021 NFL season. Expected to compete for another Super Bowl, keeping key players healthy is critical. The Vikings, however, have struggled in their two preseason contests thus far, failing to score an offensive touchdown. They’ll need to get a clearer picture of which holes must be filled before the cut-down day.
