What is NFL Game Pass, and does it offer a convenient way to watch NFL games? What are the features of NFL Game Pass, how much does it cost, where can you use the service, and can you use your subscription to watch live games?
What is NFL Game Pass?
NFL Game Pass has become a virtual must-have service for NFL fans outside of the United States. While the service was called the same thing in the United States and internationally for a long time, the services offered different features. To alleviate any confusion, the NFL has launched a new service called NFL+ for customers based in the US.
Outside of the NFL’s home market, NFL Game Pass offers a number of features. The key selling point is that it allows users to watch not only replays of NFL games but also live broadcasts. Depending on local broadcasting agreements, each region has slightly different rules on what live games are available. However, the majority of games each week are shown live by the service.
Additionally, the service allows you to watch replays of all games in ways that best suit you. The options for viewing the replays include watching the games in full or in a condensed 40/45-minute version that is cut snap to snap, so the time between the action is limited.
There is also a “Coaches Film” mode that allows users to view different camera angles of individual plays. The Coaches Film has historically had issues with availability and the quality of the search available.
A further element that the service provides is listening to live audio streams of the games. There is also usually the option to choose between the home, road, or national announcers.
On top of the game action, NFL Game Pass offers access to a lot of on-demand content. These are usually shows produced by NFL Network or NFL Films, with archived footage of old Super Bowls as well.
NFL Game Pass is region-specific
It is worth noting that the service is region specific. Therefore, a subscription purchased in Europe may not work in other countries. Moreover, different regions can have slightly different functions, so ensure you research what is available in your specific area before purchasing.
How much does NFL Game Pass Cost?
The cost of NFL Game Pass varies from region to region. The current cost in the UK is £150.99 for the Pro subscription. Each year’s subscription runs through to July 31, regardless of when it is purchased.
You can spread the cost of the Pro subscription over four installments. However, there is currently no option available to sign up for NFL Game Pass on a monthly or quarterly basis. Currently, if you want the service, you have to have it for the full year.
Can you watch live games on NFL Game Pass?
A number of games can be viewed live on NFL Game Pass, including regular-season or playoff games. You can also listen to game audio live through the service. Additionally, NFL RedZone with Scott Hanson is available through the service.
An example of the blackouts from the UK is as follows. On a Sunday, the selected Sky Sports game in the early afternoon and late afternoon windows are not available on NFL Game Pass. There is also a delay in when the replays of these games are available. These restrictions vary based on different agreements with broadcasters globally.
What platforms support the service?
Several platforms support NFL Game Pass. There is a web browser for viewing from a computer. There is also an app available on both Android and iOS mobile platforms. Then, there are various options available on game consoles and streaming devices. The majority of these services will support NFL Game Pass. Still, it is worth checking with the manufacturer directly before purchasing one.
