After an injury-hit 2020 NFL season, where are the potential landing spots for cornerback Adoree’ Jackson in free agency? Jackson is considered an extremely talented cornerback and could be in high demand following his release from the Tennessee Titans.
Adoree’ Jackson Landing Spots
It is somewhat of a shock to see Jackson hit the open market following his release from the Titans. Jackson was set to play on his fifth-year option in 2021. However, with none of that money guaranteed for first-round picks from the 2017 NFL Draft, the Titans decided to save $10.244 million in salary cap space. Now that he is free to sign anywhere, where are the potential landing spots for Adoree’ Jackson in free agency?
Dallas Cowboys
The Dallas Cowboys defense was a major problem in 2020. So far in free agency, it has only been weakened further. Cornerback Chidobe Awuzie will be joining the Bengals in 2021, leaving the Cowboys extremely thin at the position.
The Cowboys are expected to be in the market for a cornerback in the 2021 NFL Draft. However, if they start a rookie alongside Trevon Diggs, they will then have two starting corners with just one year of NFL experience across the two positions.
[sv slug=”drizly”]Therefore, this becomes an intriguing landing spot for Adoree’ Jackson in free agency. The Cowboys just made Dak Prescott the second-highest-paid player in NFL, so now are they willing to make further serious investment, but this time in their defense?
Houston Texans
The Texans’ biggest need this offseason is to improve their cornerback group. They are about to lose Vernon Hargreaves and Phillip Gaines in free agency, while Bradley Roby will start the season on the suspended list. Therefore, an investment in a top corner like Jackson would make a lot of sense for this team.
Las Vegas Raiders
The Raider shave a lot of inexperience and question marks in their cornerback group. Nevin Lawson and Daryl Worley are both about to hit free agency, and there is not much in the way of starting corners on the roster. Therefore, this makes a lot of sense as a landing spot for Adoree’ Jackson, as he could be a player that comes straight in and starts for the Raiders in 2021.
Minnesota Vikings
The Vikings are about to enter the 2021 season with two rookies on the outside. For as good as Jeff Gladney and Cameron Dantzler are, they are very inexperienced. The Vikings could give their cornerback group an immediate boost if they were to add a player of the caliber of Adoree’ Jackson.
New York Jets
The Jets’ cornerback situation is a bit of a mess heading into the 2021 NFL season. There is not very much in the way of recognized corners, and making this Adoree’ Jackson’s landing spot would immediately increase the caliber of the group for the Jets.
New York Giants
NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported that Adoree’ Jackson will meet with the Giants. The Giants could benefit from adding more depth to their cornerback group. They lack a second option opposite James Bradberry, and adding Jackson would give them one of the best pairs of corners in the NFL.
What is Adoree’ Jackson’s potential market value in free agency?
Jackson was due to play on a $10 million deal in 2021. However, as a free agent, he could have the potential to go higher this offseason. Some teams may be concerned that on just 16 targets, Jackson allowed 152 yards and 3 touchdowns. In his three games in 2020, Jackson allowed a QB rating of 145.8 when targeted. Those numbers may be enough to depress his market in 2021.
Spotrac currently values Jackson at around $12.4 million on a four-year deal. They compare him to Kendall Fuller, Bradley Roby, Trae Waynes, and James Bradberry.
Those four have deals with an average length of 3.3 years, with values ranging from $10-14.5 million. They signed their deals at an average age of just over 26. Jackson is currently 25. However, with a number of potential landing spots for Adoree’ Jackson, we could see his value increase if a bidding war begins.
