Marshall and Maryland Pro Days: Josh Ball the clear standout

Despite another odyssey of an NFL Draft season, pro days are underway. Let’s break down the pro days for the Marshall Thundering Herd and Maryland Terrapins, where Josh Ball stood out in particular during the Marshall Pro Day.

    Marshall Pro Day

The Marshall Pro Day just ended, and Josh Ball consistently graded as a Day 2 selection on my board. He stood out for the twenty-five teams on hand.

Ball measured 6′ 7 3/8″ and 308 pounds with 35-inch arms. He completed 28 reps on the bench, touched 27.5 inches in the vertical jump, and 8’10” in the broad jump. His forty was timed at 5.19 seconds, while his short shuttle was 4.67 seconds. During position drills, Ball looked athletic, smooth, and was always on balance. The Green Bay Packers ran the position drills.

After being used as a rotational lineman in 2019, Ball took hold of the starting left tackle spot this season and turned in a great campaign. He shut down Demetrius Taylor of Appalachian State to start the season, then looked dominant against DeAngelo Malone of Western Kentucky later in the year. He’s an athletic left tackle prospect with right tackle size. Don’t be surprised to hear his name called on Day 2.

    Maryland Pro Day

A large crowd of 24 teams were on hand for Maryland Pro Day, despite the fact the Terps have just a single prospect — running back Jake Funk.

Funk measured 5′ 10 1/4″ and 205 pounds. He timed the forty between 4.43 to 4.47 seconds. His other marks included a vertical jump of 38 inches, a broad jump of 10’2″, and 22 reps on the bench.

Funk looked terrific in position drills and caught the ball extremely well. After struggling with injuries early in his career, Funk turned in a terrific campaign in 2020 with 516 yards rushing and 10 receptions in just four games. The New York Jets and New England Patriots spent an extensive amount of time with Funk today.

Former Maryland receiver Tavion Jacobs also participated in today’s workout.
