Tony Pauline’s Dan Moore Jr. Scouting Report
Positives: Hard-working college left tackle who projects to the strong side in the NFL. Starts with good knee bend, stays square, and shows strength at the point. Anchors in pass protection and blocks down on opponents. Makes good use of angles in pass protection and picks up blitzes.
Fundamentally-sound tackle and shows the ability to adjust and recover. Keeps his head on a swivel and always looks for someone to hit. Effectively fights with his hands and correctly places them into defenders.
[sv slug=”drizly”]Negatives: Not a quick or nifty lineman. Stiffness hinders his ability to finish blocks. Lacks footwork off the edge.
Analysis: Moore is an efficient blocker who gets the most from his ability, yet lacks great upside. He has enough skill and size to back up on the strong side at tackle or guard.
Dan Moore Jr. Player Profile
Although he heads to the NFL Draft following three years of anchoring the Texas A&M offensive tackle spot, Dan Moore Jr. started as a guard for West Brook High School. Noticeably bigger than everyone else on his team, the Beaumont native stood out on the offensive line. He helped spring running back Joel Denley for 7.7 yards per carry in their senior season.
Despite being the standout on West Brook’s offensive line, he only received a three-star rating. He was viewed as the 38th-ranked guard in the class by 247 Sports and wasn’t considered a top-100 player in Texas. Despite that, he received significant interest with offers from 17 programs.

Some of the offers came from smaller schools in the Texas area, such as Tulane and North Texas. On the other hand, there were Power Five offers from Mississippi State and Oklahoma State. He initially committed to play for the Cowboys, but following a visit to College Station, he flipped his commitment to Texas A&M. In addition to the opportunity to play in the SEC, it kept him close to home.
Dan Moore Jr.’s college football career at Texas A&M
Dan Moore’s transition from high school guard to NFL Draft offensive tackle prospect began on his arrival at Texas A&M. Standing at over 6’5″, he makes for an imposing figure and one that was best served as a bookend of the line. He appeared in eight games as a freshman, earning his first start at right tackle against Florida.
Moore would go on to start every game throughout the rest of his collegiate career. He became a pivotal part of an offensive line that was particularly impressive at paving the way for the ground game. In 2018, they allowed the Aggies to amass 5,590 total yards of offense. In fact, Texas A&M finished the season with multiple games in which two running backs gained over 100 yards.
Despite their performance in the ground game, the young offensive line still had some development to do in pass protection. During Moore’s junior season, the Aggies allowed 2.62 sacks per game, one of the nation’s worst rates.
Senior season and Senior Bowl help elevate Dan Moore Jr.’s NFL Draft stock
However, heading into the 2020 college football season, something clicked. Moore made nine starts at left tackle, taking 628 snaps. The offensive line didn’t allow a sack on quarterback Kellen Mond through the first four games. Across the year, they allowed less than one sack per game, ranking fifth in the nation. Moore received SEC Offensive Lineman of the Week honors on his way to a place on the second-team All-SEC.

Following the season, Texas A&M offensive tackle Dan Moore Jr. declared for the 2021 NFL Draft. His performances throughout his senior campaign earned him an invite to the Reese’s Senior Bowl. He was particularly impressive during practices, with Pro Football Network’s Ian Cummings commenting on his hip flexibility and grip strength. He also performed favorably against some of the better pass rushers at the event.
Dan Moore Jr.’s best fits in the 2021 NFL Draft
Although he has suffered his fair share of detractors, Texas A&M offensive tackle Dan Moore Jr. has peaked at the right time ahead of the 2021 NFL Draft. Despite requiring some development until he can be considered an NFL starter, he has the fundamentals required to succeed at the next level.
With high school experience at guard, there is the potential that he slips inside early on in his career. However, there is every reason to believe that he can play offensive tackle in the NFL. There are multiple teams with immediate needs at the position. Yet, he may be better suited to a team where he can sit behind an established starter while he develops.
Teams like the Green Bay Packers, Jacksonville Jaguars, Los Angeles Rams, and Atlanta Falcons are a few teams that fit said description.
