Negatives: Lacks deep speed and isn’t a great vertical receiver. Slow releasing off the line of scrimmage. Has short arms.
Analysis: Stoner is a reliable wideout who makes plays with football intellect and dependable hands. He’s a natural pass catcher with enough skill to make a roster as a fifth receiver.

Although he heads to the 2021 NFL Draft following an Oklahoma State wide receiver, Dillon Stoner was a versatile weapon all over the field as a high school player. The Tulsa, Oklahoma, native made a name for himself as a sophomore at Jenks High School. In the State Championship game, he snagged a game-winning interception to win Jenks one of four state titles that he would be a part of.
He began to earn national recognition as a junior at Jenks. As a wide receiver, he racked up 597 receiving yards and 6 touchdowns on 35 catches. Furthermore, he excelled as a defensive back, showcasing tackling ability with 45 tackles and demonstrating playmaking skills on the back end with 26 pass breakups.
A star on the field and away from it, he earned a state title in the 400 meters. According to recruiting profiles, he was credited with 4.45 seconds in the 40-yard dash.
A three-star recruit, early offers came at the end of his junior season from Wyoming, Arkansas, and Arkansas State. The 12th ranked player in Oklahoma and the 64th ranked safety prospect, he also attracted offers from Texas Tech and Kansas. However, Oklahoma State saw his potential as a wide receiver.
Stoner committed to Oklahoma State prior to a senior season that saw him named the Tulsa World State Player of the Year.
Dillon Stoner’s college football career at Oklahoma State
In his Oklahoma State debut, Dillon Stoner reeled in 2 passes for 27 yards against Southern Louisiana. In an offense that had future NFL Draft picks James Washington and Marcell Ateman. Although he’d only see action in four games due to injury, he also showcased his offensive versatility. Playing wildcat QB he threw for a touchdown against Central Michigan.
Over the next few years, the Oklahoma State wide receiver would prove to be a dependable threat. As a redshirt freshman in 2017, he secured his first 100-yard receiving game against Pitt. He would add his next one against Kansas State as part of a four-game end-of-season touchdown run. That stretch also included a game-winner against Iowa State.
Making seven starts as a sophomore, he provided additional versatility as a punt returner. He would also set career-high single-season receiving figures. His 603 yards included another 127-yard game against West Virginia. The following year, as a junior, he continued to carve out a prominent special teams role.
Additionally, he finished second on the team for receiving yards. He also showcased positional versatility covering for the injured Tylan Wallace as an outside receiver.
In the year that he would finish his career and head to the 2021 NFL Draft, Dillon Stoner saved his best for last. Once again covering for the injured Wallace, he had a career performance at Baylor with 247 receiving yards and 3 touchdowns as the Cowboys routed the Bears. It wasn’t just the best game of his career, however. It was also the third-best single game for an Oklahoma State wide receiver in program history.

Oklahoma State wide receiver Dillon Stoner offers potential as a late-round pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. He has proven that he can align in multiple spots across the offensive formation in his time with the Cowboys. Additionally, he brings experience and excellence from a special teams’ perspective.
Furthermore, as the winner of the Vernon Grant Award as a junior, he demonstrates outstanding leadership, spirit, and enthusiasm. He has the character that teams will want in their locker room.
There are only a handful of teams that don’t need to address the WR position at some point in the 2021 NFL Draft. As a result of his versatility, he could make his home on any of the 32 NFL teams. However, teams with the biggest need — and therefore to double-dip — at the position include the New England Patriots, Philadelphia Eagles, Baltimore Ravens, and Green Bay Packers.
