Shannon Sharpe Admonished Micah Parsons’ Comments

The reporter asked Parsons about the locker room’s sentiment about their head coach’s future with the Cowboys.

Parsons replied, “Coaching, Mike can leave and go wherever he wants; Guys, I kind of feel bad for [are] guys like [veteran right guard] Zack Martin and guys who might be on their last year or on their way out. Because that’s who I wanted to hold the trophy for. You want to win games and do great things with those types of legends who put in more time and work than Mike McCarthy ever did.”

Shannon Sharpe, who is an NFL and CFB analyst, did not like the comments made by Parsons and shared his views on the incident:

“Micah needs to understand. You’re free for your actions, but you’re not free of consequences… Intent only matters to you because the difference between murder and manslaughter is intent. But the victim is just as dead. Micah, what you said still offended Mike McCarthy. What are you trying to do? Because here’s the thing, everybody is in this together.”

“If you’re going to be in this business, you’re going to say some things, but you’re going to have to stand by it. You said what you said because you were frustrated. And it doesn’t matter to me. I don’t care why you said it. It’s that you said it, and now you want, you won’t own it, and you want to run behind and hide behind the media. That’s cowardice, bro. That’s real cowardice.”

Former NFL Coach Rips Micah Parsons Over Mike McCarthy Shade

Sharpe wasn’t the only one offended by Parsons’ comments on his head coach’s time and effort put toward the team.

Ryan Rex was appointed as the New York Jets head coach from 2009-14 and later moved to lead the Buffalo Bills from 2015-16, head coaching for eight out of thirty years in his career. Rex’s reaction probably comes from his personal head coaching experience.

“That’s total BS,” he said. “Coaches are there, some days, 20 hours a day for two or three days at least during the week. The hours they put in are unmatched. Mike McCarthy, he doesn’t deserve this damn comment. He doesn’t, no coach does. There are some horrible coaches out there, but none of them deserve this. I’m just telling you about the kind of work they put in as coaches.”

“You’re giving up family time, you’re giving up all kinds of stuff in your life, and you’re going to get some ass — I don’t care how talented he is. That is absolutely BS.”

The Cowboys are 3-6 this season and barely have any chance of making the playoffs in 2024.
