The 49ers head into Thursday’s game against the Titans on a two-game win streak, and another victory would go a long way to securing a Wild Card spot in the playoffs. Let’s look at the San Francisco 49ers vs. Tennessee Titans Week 16 matchup, the NFL odds, and make a pick and prediction.
San Francisco 49ers vs. Tennessee Titans pick, prediction | Week 16
- Spread: 49ers -4 (Odds provided by DraftKings Sportsbook)
- Moneyline: 49ers -190, Titans +160
- Over/Under: 44.5
With three games remaining in the regular season, San Francisco sits as the sixth seed in the NFC with an 8-6 record. Beating Tennessee on Thursday would make it difficult for other teams in the hunt to leap the 49ers, and it’d instead leave several clubs fighting over the seventh spot.
[bet-promo id=”174860″ ]The 49ers are getting healthier, and this week they had a hero emerge in the run game. Fourth-year back Jeff Wilson Jr. went for 110 yards and a touchdown during an impressive display against the Atlanta Falcons. The Niners have tried various backs so far this season, but Wilson has taken the majority of carries in the last two games, posting 166 yards during that time.
Jimmy Garoppolo only had to attempt 23 passes, completing 18 for 235 yards. With Deebo Samuel, George Kittle, and Brandon Aiyuk all healthy, things are looking good for San Francisco’s offense.
Titans limping to season’s end?
As for the Titans, quite the opposite is true. A.J. Brown and Derrick Henry are both still out, and Julio Jones left Week 15’s game with a hamstring injury. Jones has struggled to stay healthy this season — he’s only played in eight games, including yesterday’s minimal contribution. The veteran WR has 25 catches for 369 yards so far this season and has not yet found the end zone in a Titans uniform.
Tennessee is struggling to put together their offense without any of their stars. Running back D’Onta Foreman has been excellent for the last couple of weeks. But in the passing game, the targets are being split between a committee of receivers, with no real standout able to make a big play or change the game. The Titans have failed to reach 20 points in any of their last four games.
49ers vs. Titans betting trends
The 49ers have won five of their last six against the spread (ATS). They’ve won the last two while also hitting on under. However, that can be a little misleading, as one of those games was a 49-point total between San Francisco and Cincinnati (the total on that game was 49.5).
The Titans have lost four of their last five ATS (including three outright) as they struggle to maintain momentum heading towards the end of the regular season. Their struggles on offense have also resulted in three unders in their last four games.
49ers vs. Titans prediction
This is a tough game for the Titans. The 49ers are far healthier and playing much better right now. Samuel and Kittle are extremely dangerous, and in the last couple of weeks, San Francisco has generated more of a run game, too.
The 4-point spread seems like a small handicap for the Niners as they face a sputtering Titans roster, even if it is on the road. That said, the return of Brown would boost the Titans — if he is deemed healthy enough to play this week.
I’ll take the 49ers to win this one by a touchdown (at least). I’ll also go for the over in this game. Tennessee should be able to score, but not often enough to keep up with the Niners.
49ers vs. Titans Prediction: 49ers 34, Titans 20
