49ers vs. Eagles Injury Report: Latest Updates On Christian McCaffrey, Deebo Samuel, and Others

Wednesday's injury report for Sunday's San Francisco 49ers vs. Philadelphia Eagles NFC Championship Game features crucial players from both teams.

The Philadelphia Eagles and San Francisco 49ers were the NFC’s best teams all season long, so it’s only appropriate that they’ve both advanced to the NFC Conference Championship Game. While both squads are relatively healthy, each club is dealing with a few nicked-up players. Here’s the Wednesday injury report for 49ers vs. Eagles.

San Francisco 49ers vs. Philadelphia Eagles Injury Report for the NFC Championship Game

    49ers Injury Report

    Did Not Practice
    QB Jimmy Garoppolo (foot)
    RB Christian McCaffrey (calf)
    RB Elijah Mitchell (groin)
    WR Deebo Samuel (ankle)

    Limited Participation
    DE Charles Omenihu (oblique)
    CB Ambry Thomas (ankle)

While McCaffrey, Mitchell, and Samuel all picked up injuries in the 49ers’ Divisional Round win over the Cowboys, head coach Kyle Shanahan told reporters Wednesday that he expects all three to be available against the Eagles.

San Francisco typically gave McCaffrey practice days off during the regular season, so it’s no surprise they’re taking a cautious approach in the playoffs. Meanwhile, Mitchell and Samuel were both sidelined by injuries earlier this year, but their current ailments appear both minor and new. For his part, Samuel said he’ll be ready to play on Sunday.

Garoppolo has been out since suffering a foot injury in Week 13. While reports have indicated he could return at some point, Shanahan said it won’t be this week. If Garoppolo — who underwent an X-ray on Tuesday — can come back for the Super Bowl, he will serve as Brock Purdy’s backup.

Omenihu was arrested Monday afternoon on suspicion of misdemeanor domestic violence. Per the NFL, nothing has changed regarding Omenihu’s status for Sunday. Shanahan said the 49ers will let the legal process play out, and Omenihu will suit up against the Eagles if he’s healthy enough to play.

    Eagles Injury Report

    Limited Participation
    OT Lane Johnson (groin)
    CB Avonte Maddox (toe)

The Eagles held a walkthrough on Wednesday, so this is an estimated injury report detailing how these players would have participated had Philadelphia conducted a full practice.

Johnson missed the final two weeks of the regular season with his groin injury, but he’s delaying surgery so he can play in the postseason. He’s expected to be available against the 49ers.

Maddox hasn’t played since suffering a toe injury in Week 16. He was also sidelined for multiple weeks by a knee injury earlier this season. The Eagles are hopeful he can play on Sunday, and his availability would give Philadelphia more options in the slot where C.J. Gardner-Johnson has been filling in for Maddox.

The most notable aspect of the Eagles’ injury report might be who’s not listed. Neither Jalen Hurts, who missed two regular-season games with a shoulder injury, nor A.J. Brown, who picked up a minor hip injury in the Divisional Round, are named in Philadelphia’s update.
