As the San Francisco 49ers continue to prep for free agency and the 2024 NFL Draft, a few familiar names surfaced. The 49ers have reportedly met with the children of both Jerry Rice and Frank Gore at the 2024 NFL Combine.
San Francisco 49ers News Today
Following the firing of defensive coordinator Steve Wilks, San Francisco is still doing their due diligence to fill that void. The 49ers have reportedly interviewed five candidates for the job, including former Los Angeles Chargers head coach Brandon Staley. All of that and more in today’s San Francisco 49ers news!
49ers Meet With Jerry Rice’s Son WR Brenden Rice at the NFL Combine
As the San Francisco 49ers contemplate the future of wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk, they met with Jerry Rice’s son at the 2024 NFL Combine. USC wide receiver Brenden Rice is a fun player to watch as he gives maximum effort at all times.
Rice would provide the 49ers with a big body wide receiver that they are currently lacking on the outside. He is currently projected to be selected on the second day of the 2024 NFL Draft, where the 49ers currently hold three picks.
Adam Schefter Tells Crazy Story of How the 49ers Drafted Brock Purdy
Everyone knows that 49ers quarterback was ‘Mr. Irrelevant’ in the 2022 NFL Draft. But not everyone knows the crazy story of how San Francisco acquired the pick to select Purdy. ESPN’s Adam Schefter discussed the wild story on the “Pardon My Take” podcast.
The 49ers acquired the compensatory pick that they selected Brock Purdy with when C.J. Beathard signed with the Jacksonville Jaguars in free agency. Yet, the only reason why the 49ers even drafted Beathard in the 2017 NFL Draft is because they thought they’d sign Kirk Cousins in free agency and didn’t study any other quarterbacks.
NFL Insider Reports 49ers ‘Flirted’ With Hiring DC Steve Spagnuolo After Super Bowl 58 Loss
If you can’t beat them…hire them? That’s apparently the idea that the 49ers flirted with after attempting to hire defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo away from the Kansas City Chiefs this offseason. The Athletic’s NFL Insider Dianna Russini revealed San Francisco’s plan to steal Spagnuolo from the Chiefs.
“And even on the coaching side, which there is no cap, right? Steve Spagnuolo signs a couple of days after. San Francisco was flirting with him and bringing him in as DC,” Russini said on “The Athletic Football Show” podcast.
Frank Gore Jr. Talks About How He Compares to His Legendary Father
The 2024 NFL Draft is full of children of former NFL players. Frank Gore Jr. is following in his father’s footsteps to the NFL, and he has already met with San Francisco at the 2024 NFL Combine.
Despite the presence of star running back Christian McCaffrey in San Francisco’s backfield, the 49ers could use some inexpensive help behind him. Gore is an explosive player with the versatility to make players out of the backfield or in the slot as well.
Report: 49ers Interview Raiders Safeties Coach Gerald Alexander
As the San Francisco 49ers continue to search for their next defensive coordinator, they are reportedly interviewing newly hired Las Vegas Raiders safeties coach Gerald Alexander for their opening. Alexander was just hired by the Raiders in late January, now he’s interviewing for San Francisco’s defensive coordinator job.
