San Francisco 49ers Injuries: Latest Updates on Brock Purdy, George Kittle, Deebo Samuel Ahead of the Patriots Game

We know the San Francisco 49ers will be undermanned for Sunday’s home game against the New England Patriots, but just how bad will it be?

Wednesday provided updates on multiple banged-up 49ers stars, including quarterback Brock Purdy, tight end George Kittle, and receiver Deebo Samuel. We also have a better idea of which Patriots are dealing with injuries ahead of the Week 4 matchup.

What’s the Latest on Brock Purdy, George Kittle, and Other Injured 49ers?

Running back Christian McCaffrey (Achilles) and defensive tackle Javon Hargrave (torn triceps) already are confirmed to miss Sunday’s game. McCaffrey, who reportedly will see a specialist in Germany, isn’t eligible to return until Week 6, whereas Hargrave likely is out for the rest of the season.

But what about other injured Niners? Here’s what Wednesday’s practice participation looked like, according to team reporter Lindsey Pallares:

  • QB Brock Purdy: Full participant (back)
  • LT Trent Williams: Did not participate (illness)
  • WR Deebo Samuel: Did not participate (calf)
  • LB Dee Winters: Did not participate (ankle)
  • TE George Kittle: Limited participant (hamstring)

Samuel reportedly will sit out Sunday’s game, which would be a huge break for the Patriots. Kittle’s status is less certain; although it seems possible, he’ll at least be less than 100%.

Purdy is a full go, while Williams, in theory, should be able to recover from his illness before Sunday’s 4:05 p.m. ET kickoff.

Patriots Injury Report Details

New England’s full injury report wasn’t available at the time of this writing.

However, the Patriots on Wednesday had just one practice absence: cornerback Alex Austin. The second-year pro also missed Monday’s practice, so his status for Sunday’s game could be in doubt.

Tackle Vederian Lowe, guard Michael Jordan, and edge rusher Anfernee Jennings appeared limited during practice. They also were limited on Monday.

On the positive side, running back Rhamondre Stevenson didn’t appear to have any restrictions after suffering a finger injury during last Thursday’s loss to the New York Jets.
