3x Super Bowl Champion Picks 1 Clear Winner in the Jalen Hurts vs. 2025 QBs Debate

Shannon Sharpe believes Jalen Hurts deserves to be among the top-ranked QBs in the NFL heading into 2025 following a Super Bowl triumph.

Not many current quarterbacks can boast that they have taken out the Kansas City Chiefs and Patrick Mahomes in the playoffs. Jalen Hurts, Joe Burrow, and Tom Brady are the only ones who have defeated the Chiefs in the playoffs in the past six years.

While Brady has retired and Burrow’s Cincinnati Bengals couldn’t qualify, it was the nemesis from Super Bowl 57 that finally came back to haunt the Chiefs. The Philadelphia Eagles exacted that revenge when they defeated the Chiefs 40-22 in Super Bowl 59. They also stopped the Chiefs from making history to three-peat in the Super Bowl.

Legendary TE Shannon Sharpe Points Out What Makes Jalen Hurts Different From Other QBs

After winning Super Bowl 59, the Eagles QB is receiving praise from all corners. On ESPN’s “First Take,” he got his due credit from three-time Super Bowl champion and legendary tight end Shannon Sharpe, who highlighted what separates Hurts from the other quarterbacks in the league.

“If you go back and study him at Alabama, if you go back and look at him at Oklahoma, all he does is win, Stephen A. And it might not be the prettiest, but it’s effective, man,” Sharpe said.

“Jalen Hurts has a lot to be proud of — he shut a lot of people up. And so now, when we assess quarterbacks coming into the 2025 season, I wonder where they’re going to rank Jalen Hurts. Because they keep telling me all these quarterbacks that throw for a ton of yards are better than him.

“All I know is what he’s done — two of the last three years, he’s been in the Super Bowl. And he did something only a handful of quarterbacks have ever done — beat Patrick Mahomes in a playoff game.”

Sharpe hopes the next time QB rankings come up, the committee has Hurts in the top tier.

The only drawback Hurts has is that, as a QB, he doesn’t have a ton of passing yards on him. However, the fact of the matter is that he has taken the Eagles to their second trip to the Super Bowl in three years and has done what most couldn’t — beat Mahomes in the playoffs.

Hurts Named MVP of Super Bowl 59

Another year, and once again the quarterback has taken home the MVP of the biggest game. While the Eagles had many standout performers, including DeVonta Smith and Zack Baun, Hurts came out on top in the voting to win Super Bowl 59 MVP.

The selection process, which includes 20% fan voting and 80% media members voting, found Hurts the deserving recipient after he threw for 221 yards for two touchdowns and one interception. He also added 72 yards on the ground and scored once.
