2x Super Bowl Champion Calls for Aaron Rodgers To Retire – ‘He’s Having a Worse Year Than Zach Wilson’

Aaron Rodgers’ tenure with the New York Jets has been far from the fairy tale many envisioned. After tearing his Achilles in his debut game in 2023, Rodgers returned healthy in 2024 but couldn’t help the Jets like he used to in his golden days.

The inconsistent performances, a coaching shake-up, and no clear direction for the franchise have raised questions about Rodgers’ NFL future. Rodgers recently admitted that he is unsure about his future after a 21-year career in the NFL.

Criticism Mounts as Aaron Rodgers Heads Toward an Uncertain NFL Future

Rodgers’ statements signal his return in 2025 and would mean that he’ll be part of a franchise still in recovery mode. Meanwhile, the NFL world has had plenty to say about whether the four-time MVP should hang up his cleats.

LeSean McCoy, a two-time Super Bowl champion, didn’t think twice to lay out his stand when discussing Rodgers on Fox Sports’ The Facility. McCoy questioned Rodgers’ contribution to the Jets and whether his continuous comparison to Zach Wilson is justified.

“We’ve been lied to so much already. He’s having a worse year than Zach Wilson. What is there to offer?” asked the former running back.

McCoy stressed that Rodgers’ leadership and production have fallen short this season, stating, “Production-wise, what did he do? A guy with this type of experience, a guy with this type of team, you got to elevate the team. I didn’t see that. It was chaotic all year.”

However, it is hard to miss Rodgers’ status as one of the most seasoned players in the NFL. He has been a four-time MVP and has brought glory to his former team, the Green Bay Packers, for years. Therefore, McCoy acknowledged Rodgers’ decorated career before he finally urged him to step away.

“I think he was a phenomenal player in his time. Has a great résumé — MVPs, a championship. Retire.”

Meanwhile, the facts of the case are that Rodgers’ contract runs through 2025, but his decision hinges on multiple factors, including his physical health and whether the Jets’ new regime wants him back.

The franchise itself is in flux, with a fresh coaching search underway after Robert Saleh and GM Joe Douglas were fired. Rodgers’ unclear statement on The Pat McAfee Show, where the 41-year-old quarterback admitted, “When you’re going on 41 years old, you’re obviously close to the end of your career,” has done more harm than good.

For now,  Rodgers has hinted that retirement isn’t a done deal. He remains open to returning but not without creating a spec of doubt in the minds of fans and followers.
