What Are Top 30 Visits and Why They Matter?
The term top 30 is used to designate the 30 allotted slots each team has to host draft prospects for a private visit in the time between the NFL Combine and the NFL Draft. The name is a bit facetious as it suggests that the team is hosting players on their draft board.
Creating an illusion of interest to dissuade other teams or just further medical evaluation with their own doctors are common themes. Still, sometimes teams want to get a closer view of an overlooked prospect. Georgia State OT Travis Glover was a late addition to the Senior Bowl, but his exceptional play has earned him 20 top 30 visits.
Aside from teams being allowed to use their own staff for medical evaluations, what truly separates a top 30 visit from an NFL Combine or pro day meeting is the barring of on-field workouts.

Tours of the facility are allowed, and coaches can show film and ask conceptual questions, but no workouts — just some good conversation, a sprawling walk-about, and a quick physical before they go if required.
Top 30 visits allow teams to become more familiar with prospects on a deeper level than a baseline meeting, while prospects are afforded an opportunity to solidify their value to executives and coaches. It’s a win-win endeavor and usually a good indicator for the player that their name will be called in April.
