Top Broad Jumps at the 2024 NFL Combine by Position
The broad jump is one of the biggest tests of explosive athleticism at the 2024 NFL Combine. It measures how far prospects can jump from a standing start, where strength and athleticism are tested equally.
The drill tests lower body power and leg muscles that are key for get-offs in the NFL.
While players are unlikely to ever repeat such a test on an NFL field, the broad jump is seen as a barometer for instant explosiveness. Being able to burst out of their stance and stay balanced is key for players who line up one-on-one and need to create leverage.
The test is a good measurement tool for all positions. However, the elite testers are usually defensive backs and wide receivers.
Furthermore, the record books are full of skill position players who have dominated the drill at the Combine, helping boost their NFL Draft stock.
Byron Jones set the record in 2015 when the defensive back out of UConn jumped 12 feet three inches. At the time, it was a world record. After Jones, WR Emanuel Hall and DB Jaun Thornhill jumped 11 feet nine inches in 2019, and DB Obi Melifonwu also jumped the same length in 2017.
Jones’s record has now stood for nine years, but there are plenty of explosive athletes at the 2024 NFL Combine.
Could anyone break the record?
