Top Bench Press Results at the 2024 NFL Combine by Position
The bench press drill at the 2024 NFL Combine isn’t one for the faint-hearted. NFL Draft prospects have to bench press 225 pounds as many times as possible in a fearless test of power and endurance.
Unsurprisingly, the drill is dominated by trench players. The big men on the offensive and defensive line are built to compete and deal with such size and strength. The test is so overwhelming that many skill position players opt not to participate at all. The risk of injury to players not used to such strength can be high.

Therefore, the list of all-time top performers is loaded by linemen. The record was set in 2011 when Oregon State DT Stephen Paea lifted an astounding 49 reps. He is followed by OL Mitch Petrus (2010) and DL Mike Kudla (2006) with 45 reps.
The list is rich with prospects who competed at the NFL Combine pre-2015, with many players opting not to participate in the drill in recent years. However, in a shake-up to the schedule at the 2024 NFL Combine, the bench press will take place the day after on-field drills, giving prospects more time to recover.
