When Does the 2023 NFL Preseason End?
The final game of the NFL preseason will be held on Sunday, Aug. 27. While most Week 3 preseason action will take place Thursday-Saturday, the Texans and Saints will conclude the exhibition season on Sunday.
Following the preseason, the 2023 regular season will officially kick off on Thursday, Sept. 7, when the defending Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs host the Detroit Lions at Arrowhead Stadium.
While many players will be pleased to see the preseason come to an end, there will be plenty of transactions over the next few weeks. Earlier this year, NFL owners approved a measure implementing a single cutdown date instead of multiple deadlines.
Every club must trim its roster to 53 players by Tuesday, Aug. 29. Each club is required to release 37 players, meaning 1,184 players will be cut at the end of August. A decent portion of that group will eventually end up on one of the NFL’s 16-man practice squads.
How Many NFL Preseason NFL Games Are There?
In 2021, the NFL enacted a rule change that expanded the regular season from 16 to 17 games and reduced the preseason from four to three games. With each team playing in three preseason contests, there will be 48 total preseason games on the 2023 slate.
How To Watch and Live Stream NFL Preseason Games
There are several ways to watch and live stream NFL preseason games. NFL Network will cover a number of the preseason games this year. In addition, you can use streaming services such as Vidgo and fuboTV to live stream any of the local or national preseason contests.
This season, five preseason games will be broadcast on national networks. ESPN will televise two games, while NBC, FOX, and CBS will broadcast one each. Additionally, Amazon Prime will carry one contest, which will also be available on Twitch.
NFL+, the NFL’s mobile and tablet streaming service, will carry preseason games. Each matchup will also be available for replay on NFL Game Pass through NFL+ Premium.
