The 2022 NFL Draft is still a few months away, but news and rumors continue to come in regarding this year’s draft class. Here is the latest I am hearing on the NFL Combine, Treylon Burks, and the future of the Jets tight end position.
NFL Draft News and Rumors: Is Treylon Burks struggling?
Several weeks ago, I reported Arkansas receiver Treylon Burks, widely projected as a first-round pick, tipped the scales at a hefty 230+ pounds during combine training.
Since then, I’m told Burks has gotten his weight down. However, he still does not look as smooth or fluid. Additionally, he’s not running routes as well as the other receivers he’s training with.
What will the NFL Combine look like this year?
Speaking of the combine, I’m told it’s unclear what the league intends to do about media access during the event. Everyone expects workouts to occur with limited restrictions — if there are any restrictions at all. But the NFL is still undecided as to whether the media will have access to player, coach, and GM interviews.
The NFLPA canceled their annual agent meeting, which takes place during the combine. The meeting will be held virtually once again this year. Agents use the combine for several purposes. They attend the required annual meeting and chauffeur players attending workouts in Indianapolis. But it’s also one of the final legs to negotiate deals for available free agents they represent.
2022 NFL Draft Rumors: The New York Jets’ search for a tight end
The New York Jets could be coaching their tight end of the future next week at the Senior Bowl. Robert Saleh and Co. will be coaching the National Team. TEs on that roster include Ohio State’s Jeremy Ruckert and Colorado State’s Trey McBride.
Sources inside the building tell me Jets scouts are very high on both tight ends at this early stage of the process.
Meanwhile, Virginia Tech tight end James Mitchell is doing incredibly well rehabbing the knee he injured in the middle of September. There is at least a hope the athletic prospect could get some type of workout in before the 2022 NFL Draft.
