2021 Dynasty Rookie Mock Draft: Where to draft this year’s top rookies

2021 Dynasty Superflex Rookie Mock Draft | Second Round

Where can you find value on “Day 2” of your Superflex dynasty rookie draft?

    11) Javonte Williams (RB3 – Denver Broncos)

After seeing both Harris and Etienne come off the board, the next pick in this 2021 Superflex rookie draft is Javonte Williams. The NFL Draft was brutal for the 2021 RB rookies, and there is a substantial descent to the next player in my rankings.

In his rookie year, Williams will play second fiddle to Melvin Gordon. However, Gordon is in the final year of his contract, and then it is smooth sailing for Williams. Etienne gets the slight edge over him due to the additional year as the starter, plus the Jaguars have the fifth-year option due to him being a first-round pick. Starting the draft with Lawrence and Williams is about as good as it gets.

    12) Jaylen Waddle (WR3 – Miami Dolphins)

The Miami Dolphins were determined to bring in an offensive playmaker and did just that by selecting Jaylen Waddle with pick No. 6. Waddle’s reunited with Tua Tagovailoa, and it appears that he’s going to be locked into the slot role in this offense. DeVante Parker and Will Fuller will man the outside, allowing Waddle to move around the offense and fills a massive need for the Dolphins.

It’s now or never with Tua. Waddle is as dangerous as they come after the catch with his speed and explosiveness. He is the perfect fit for the modern NFL offense and will rack up fantasy points early and often.

    13) Rondale Moore (WR4 – Arizona Cardinals)

Oh man, I can’t even begin to tell you how excited I am over this landing spot for Rondale Moore. I have been as high as anyone on him for quite some time, and Arizona was the ideal situation. He will be a target monster.

Lined up inside, unless you put your top CB on him, he will cook any nickel cornerback or linebacker across from him. His release rivals Smith for best in the class. Everything he does is at full throttle, even when not being targeted. Throw in his thick frame, and Moore will be dominant after the catch.

The Cardinals already have DeAndre Hopkins and A.J. Green. Also, Arizona ran 67.6 plays per game and threw on 55.8% of their plays. This is not a fluke. I expect to see this to be in the 56-57% range in 2021. Moore is going to be a problem for defense for years to come. I am all-in, and landing him with the 13th selection in this 2021 Superflex Rookie Mock Draft is the icing on the cake. He is one of my favorite players amongst all 2021 dynasty rookies.

    14) Rashod Bateman (WR5 – Baltimore Ravens)

I will not lie; I am a bit disappointed with the landing spot, but Rashod Bateman perfectly fills the role the Ravens need. They were missing a big-bodied target for Lamar Jackson. He has the size to play the “X” (6′, 190 lbs) and can run any route in the playbook. It would not shock me at all if Bateman ends up the best receiver of the 2021 dynasty rookies.

I have said it before, and I’ll say it again. Draft the talent, not just the landing spot. People faded A.J. Brown because he went to Tennessee two years ago, and look at how that turned out. The volume will always be an issue on the Ravens, but Bateman has the skills to make every opportunity count for fantasy managers.

    15) Elijah Moore (WR6 – New York Jets)

Elijah Moore is an explosive playmaker who should give Zach Wilson a home run threat from the slot. It honestly was surprising to see Moore last until the second round because the talent jumps off the screen. If not for Smith’s incredible year, Moore would have led the SEC in most stats.

The Jets have the making of an excellent offense. Denzel Mims and Corey Daivs will man the outside, and the addition of Moore could be enough for the Jets to release Jamison Crowder to save money. I love the skill set of Moore, and if we believe Wilson is as good as advertised, he could be Antonio Brown lite. I will not be surprised if Moore is the best value of all 2021 dynasty rookies.

    16) Trey Sermon (RB4 – San Francisco 49ers)

After a wide receiver run, the fourth RB comes off the board in this 2021 Superflex Rookie Mock Draft with Trey Sermon. Thanks to an incredible end of his collegiate career, Sermon was a hot name but a bit of an enigma. After landing with the 49ers at pick No. 88, the questions are gone for me. The 49ers love to ride the hot hand at RB, and there is no reason to think Sermon can not take over this offense.

While the 49ers already have Raheem Mostert, Jeff Wilson, and Wayne Gallman, none have separated themselves from the pack. Also, all three of them are scheduled to be free agents after the 2021 season. Though I expect Sermon to get a fair share of carries in Year 1, we know Shanahan rides the hot hand. Exercise patience, and you will be rewarded.

    17) Terrace Marshall (WR7 – Carolina Panthers)

After a bit of a surprising slip on draft day, Terrace Marshall Jr. lands in a great spot with the Carolina Panthers. Typically, we have to make an educated guess on how a rookie will transition into their new system. Not this time — Marshall is with former LSU OC Joe Brady. The only thing that could hold him back is Sam Darnold if his reclamation project is a failure.

Marshall has prototypical size, speed, and hands and should thrive in Carolina on an offense loaded with talent. I expect Marshall to be a go-to target in the red zone. It’s also worth noting that this is the final year of Robby Anderson’s contract, opening up a larger opportunity in 2022 and beyond.

    18) Amon-Ra St. Brown (WR8 – Detroit Lions)

I’ll be honest; I am still flipping a coin on the selection between Marshall and Amon-Ra St. Brown in this 2021 Superflex Dynasty Rookie Mock Draft. I have been saying since he was a freshman that he was the best player in his family. I know Brown turned some off once they saw his name attached to the Detriot Lions. For me, it had the opposite effect.

Between Kenny Golladay, Marvin Jones, and Danny Amendola, players who accounted for 59% of their targets (394) and a staggering 72.4% of their air yards (3,519), are off the team. Their pre-draft depth chart consisted of Breshad Perriman, Tyrell Williams, and Quintez Cephus.

The Lions are also the Vegas betting favorite to have the first overall pick in 2022. It’s the perfect storm. A team unlikely to compete that will be playing from behind and is the most talented receiver in the room. St. Brown is going to lead the Lions in targets as a rookie. I am calling that now. St. Brown will be Jared Goff’s new Cooper Kupp, and we all know how valuable that role is for fantasy football.

    19) Kadarius Toney (WR9 – New York Giants)

I did not see this pick coming, and I was not alone. I never thought Kadarius Toney would have been the fourth wide receiver selected in the NFL Draft. Coming off the board at pick No. 20, he goes to an already stacked receiver room. So who is the odd man out?

Kenny Golladay is locked in after signing a massive contract, and Darius Slayton is a perimeter receiver. To me, Sterling Shepard is on the outside looking in with Toney taking over the slot. Shepard was at his best when in the slot, but the draft capital investment in Toney is too much to ignore. It is Toney’s role now, and he could thrive in this offense.

Toney is arguably the most sudden and quick-twitch player of the 2021 dynasty rookies. Although his aDOT will be low, the after-the-catch ability is as good as they come. Toney has moved up several spots in my post-draft rookie rankings and is a fantastic late-second-round pick in 2021 Superflex dynasty rookie mock drafts.

    20) Michael Carter (RB5 – New York Jets)

Remember last year? If you wanted a top-five running back, you needed to be inside the first six selections of rookie drafts? Those were the days. I wish someone would tell you when you are in the “good ole days” before they are gone.

This selection epitomizes the lack of running back talent amongst the 2021 dynasty rookies. However, please do not mistake this for me saying Michael Carter is not a talented back. While at UNC serving as the speed in the 1-2 punch of him and Williams, Carter made a name for himself with flashy plays and a well-rounded skill set. He is arguably the best zone rusher in the draft and goes to an offense that will feature a similar scheme.

The Jets have no one else on their roster to compete for touches, so as long as the offense can move the ball, it will open the rushing attack for Carter. Even as a high-end RB3 in 2021, he is one of the last remaining RBs you have any confidence in selection.
