2020 NFL Draft: Bengals desperate for a quarterback

After the 2019 NFL season, the Cincinnati Bengals will move on from Andy Dalton and find their franchise quarterback in the 2020 NFL draft.

2020 NFL Draft- With the first pick, the Cincinnati Bengals select…

This isn’t rocket science. There are four prospects that I could see the Bengals selecting with the first pick in the 2020 draft. We took a look at their needs and while it seems that it is a no brainer to select a quarterback, we must be prepared for the unexpected.

Scenario #1- Chase Young, Edge, Ohio State

Wait, what? Well, think about this for a second. Imagine a scenario where the Bengals were able to obtain their quarterback prior to the draft. Cam Newton would be the perfect fit in the AFC North and it seems the Panthers are likely to move on from him following the 2019 season. Look, I know this is a long shot, but I also never expected to see Jerry Rice in a Seahawks uniform or the Cardinals select Kyler Murray with the 1st pick in the draft just one year after spending a top-ten selection on Josh Rosen.

In a crazy scenario where the Bengals decide to trade for Cam Newton or any other quarterback, Chase Young would be the perfect pick. Young might be the best overall prospect in the entire draft class. We have seen a rookie defensive end instantly change the fate of a franchise in San Francisco’s Nick Bosa. Young is that type of player, with maybe even a higher ceiling.

While Young is a fantastic player, the Bengals didn’t go 0-16 to draft a defensive end. It’s not too often that a franchise finds itself with the first overall selection, so when you have the pick, you have to draft the best player at the position that impacts the game the most, the quarterback.
