    Round 7: Tua Tagovailoa

The Dolphins have their franchise quarterback

We arrive in the seventh round of my dynasty SuperFlex mock draft, and I have three running backs and three wide receivers. Usually, that would be acceptable, but this is SuperFlex, and I need to jump into the quarterback pool immediately. I look over the draft board, and there are veteran signal-callers available, but I chose the upside route and selected Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa.

Too early? Yes, maybe. I have an excellent young foundation so far, which allows me to go all-in for Tua here. Everyone knows the Tua story. In 2018, Tagovailoa’s last full season, he threw 3,966 passing yards, 43 touchdowns, and six interceptions. However, Tua suffered a dislocated right hip last season, ending his three-year career in Alabama.

Tua possesses the most upside and talent of the quarterbacks from the 2020 class. Miami selected him fifth overall, and the only concern should be his continued health. He is the franchise quarterback for years to come. The Dolphins need to be patient, but the expectations are being intensified for Tua like no other QB drafted by Miami since Dan Marino was behind center.

    Tua’s fantasy analysis

Regardless of all of the hysteria, veteran Ryan Fitzpatrick should be the starting quarterback for the Dolphins. The journeymen quarterback is playing on his eighth team and is the type of veteran presence that will be essential for the growth of Tua.

Fitzpatrick led the Dolphins to a surprising 5-11 record by throwing for 20 touchdowns and 3,529 yards. He was also the team’s leading rusher with 243 yards and four rushing touchdowns.

I anticipate that Fitzpatrick is the starting quarterback in Week 1, and barring injury, will be their starter until the bye week in Week 11. If Tua is healthy, I believe he takes over after the bye and plays the rest of the season.

Miami needs to beef up their offensive line, but they do have decent offensive players in receivers DeVante Parker and Preston Williams with tight end Mike Gesicki.

    Round 8: Marquise Brown

Brown showed flashes in his rookie season

Analyzing my draft board, I am looking for a few breakout players that I have my fantasy radar focused on. One, in particular, is a WR who was dealing with an injury in his rookie season. He still scored seven touchdowns, and that is partially why I chose Ravens’ wide receiver, Marquise Brown, with my next pick.

Baltimore drafted Brown with the 25th pick in the 2019 NFL Draft with hopes that his 4.32 40-yard dash speed would open the Ravens offense. Brown produced 46 receptions on 71 targets for 584 yards, and a franchise rookie record seven touchdowns. He was recovering from foot surgery during the offseason but showed flashes that he could be a prime deep threat in the NFL.

    Brown’s fantasy analysis

Brown and Lamar Jackson displayed some excellent chemistry last season, capped off by his seven receptions for 126 yards in the playoff loss to the Tennessee Titans.

In a run-heavy offense, I still envision Brown to take the next step into a double-digit touchdown receiver in 2020. Brown has demonstrated that he has recovered from his injury woes in his latest workouts.

Brown continues to develop into the team’s number one receiver and a WR2 in fantasy football with unlimited upside. Inserting Brown in one of my flex spots in my lineup could be a league winner.

    Round 9: Drew Brees

The future Hall-of-Famer is the perfect bridge

I selected Tua in the seventh round with an eye toward the future, a pure dynasty pick to invest in the future of my dynasty team. However, I want to win now, and I need a quarterback who can potentially be a league-winner to pair with a rookie QB that may not even play in 2020. I decided upon the future Hall-of-Famer quarterback Drew Brees to be the bridge on my team until Tua is ready to show his ability in the NFL.

    Brees’ fantasy analysis

Brees had an excellent fantasy season in 2019 despite the thumb injury that cost him five games. He threw for 27 touchdowns and a 74.3 percent completion rate in 11 games.

He possesses a high floor and is consistent as they come. His ceiling is MVP. With the playmakers surrounding Brees, he is a low-risk investment, albeit maybe a one-year venture.
