2019 Fantasy Football: The Deep State catches up with WR sleepers

    Keke Coutee, Houston Texans

It didn’t take Keke Coutee long to make an impact in 2018. In his first game, a Week 4 matchup at Indianapolis, Coutee caught 11 passes for 109 yards on 15 targets. Injuries limited Coutee to six games last year, where he averaged 6.8 targets per game. If Coutee stays healthy, expect that number to go up significantly in 2019.

Coutee is PPR gold in his slot role with the Texans. He’s on the field with one of the best wide receivers in the game in DeAndre Hopkins. In addition, the Texans have one of the best deep threats in Will Fuller. That leaves a lot of space for the speedy Coutee to operate in the middle of the field. Houston did little to improve their porous offensive line this offseason. That means quarterback Deshaun Watson will likely be looking early and often for quick throws to Coutee.

    Robert Foster, Buffalo Bills

Robert Foster appears to be one of those players whose pro career will be better than his collegiate one. As a rookie last season he surpassed his entire receiving yardage total from four seasons at Alabama with 541 yards on 27 receptions. All but 30 of those yards came in the final seven games of the season.

The Bills invested heavily in the offense this offseason for second-year quarterback Josh Allen. The Deep State analyzes Allen’s high potential in the quarterback sleeper list. Look for the Bills offense to make big strides in 2019, with Foster looking like one of Allen’s favorite targets. He’s more valuable in non-PPR leagues, where he has the potential to finish as a WR2 this 2019 fantasy football season.

    Cordarrelle Patterson, Chicago Bears

For those that value flexibility on their fantasy roster, Cordarrelle Patterson might just be the player for you. He’ll begin the season listed as a wide receiver, but depending on your league, could qualify for running back status as the season unfolds. Patterson has never been a consistent fantasy weapon but showed off his versatility with 228 yards rushing in New England last season.

Bears head coach Matt Nagy says he feels like a “kid in a candy store” having Patterson at his disposal. He’s labeled Patterson’s role as “Trojan” indicating multiple uses for the speedy veteran. Though Patterson has disappointed fantasy owners in the past, it sounds like Nagy has big plans for the wideout in 2019. He’s an intriguing flex player to snag in the late rounds of your 2019 fantasy football drafts.
