2 Surprise Teams Emerge as Potential Suitors for 10-Time Pro Bowl QB Russell Wilson

Russell Wilson has seen a steady fall down the quarterback ladder. Once a promising dual-threat quarterback with a Super Bowl appearance under his name, Wilson has now bounced around between the Denver Broncos and the Pittsburgh Steelers.

A free agent now, Wilson doesn’t have a huge market available for him, despite the lack of sure-fire starting-caliber quarterbacks in free agency and the 2025 NFL Draft class. However, two teams are reportedly showing interest in the 10-time Pro Bowler.

Russell Wilson Chase Down to 2 Teams

Last year, Wilson joined the Steelers with plenty of hype. Despite a rough stint in Denver, pairing Wilson with defensive-minded coach Mike Tomlin seemed like a promising move. His debut was delayed until Week 7, but he started strong.

A 6-1 record over his first seven games had the Steelers humming. However, that’s when the mirage broke and Pittsburgh ended the year on a five-game losing streak, bowing out to the Baltimore Ravens in the Divisional Round.

As a result, Wilson ranked 70th on PFSN’s Top 121 NFL Free Agent Rankings. Describing his year, Ben Rolfe wrote, “Russell Wilson was fine after taking over as the starter over Fields, but he did not elevate Pittsburgh over what Fields provided or proved to be any safer.”

Moreover, “His yards per pass attempt when outside of the pocket has dipped in three consecutive seasons, and in this his age-36 season, any sort of rebound should be viewed as a major surprise, not a realistic expectation.”

However, two teams, desperate enough to improve their quarterback situation might take the plunge with Wilson. In a report, Connor Hughes confirmed which teams are looking at the former Super Bowl champion.

Aaron Rodgers is the quarterback the Giants want. They’re waiting to find out if he wants them,” Hughes reported on X. “Most league sources I touch base with believe Rodgers is headed to the Steelers, which would lead the Giants to Russell Wilson. The problem: The Titans, and others, are interested in Wilson, too.”

On the year, he finished 17th in PFSN’s QB+ metric, far ahead of Daniel Jones for the New York Giants at 32nd and both Mason Rudolph and Will Levis for the Titans at 26th and 34th, respectively.

Rolfe, in his offseason predictions, also had the Titans eventually landing Wilson as their starting quarterback. He described it as an insurance policy, even if the team chose to go with either Shedeur Sanders or Cam Ward with the first overall pick.

“They are expected to take a quarterback with the first overall pick, but whether it is Cam Ward or Shedeur Sanders, there is no guarantee that they will be ready to start in 2025. Therefore, signing a veteran like Russell Wilson on a one-year deal is the short-term option.”

But why Wilson? “Wilson would bring some stability to the quarterback room and is not a quarterback who will upset the fanbase every week with bad throws.” That is the bar to clear in Tennessee, and Wilson can certainly manage that.
